April Ross

April Ross is one of just a handful of female beach volleyball players who have won medals in more than one Olympics. Alix-Klineman is set to compete alongside April Ross Tokyo for her third gold medal over the next couple of days. Ross will also be hoping for her first Olympic gold. At 39 and has a long way to go, this could be her last shot. She remains optimistic that she'll be successful in achieving top honours. Ross, via NBC Boston, said that if the team plays consistently or well they could win a gold. So I'm going to take some luck also. Ross, who was born 1982, and grew up within Costa Mesa California with her mother and sister, first began playing athletics at the Newport Harbor High School. While at Newport Harbor High School, she played in a variety of activities. While a prep student she played the indoor game of volleyball, as well as basketball as well as running track. She clearly was the top player in indoor volleyball. Her college biography states that she was an outside-hitting hitter middle blocker and setter throughout her volleyball time at high school. Gatorade Circle Of Champions named her the National Player of 1999. In 2000, she received the Orange County Athlete of the year award for volleyball. Ross is currently playing with Klineman since 2017 but her beach game had been established long before this. She's won big competitions with different players. A couple of those has become an icon in the world of volleyball. Jennifer Kessy coached her from 2007 to the year 2013. Together with Kessy, Ross won a World Title in 2009 while competing internationally. They took home a Silver medal at the 2012 Olympic Games held in London. Misty May, Kerri Walsh and Kerri Jennings were the team to beat for the gold. Ross Jennings replaced May-Treanor when she retired. Both went on to win the bronze medal in beach volleyball in the Rio Olympics in 2016 along with Walsh Jennings. Ross began her college time with the Trojans at USC in graduation from high school. This was years before Ross went to the sand and turned professional. Her time in the Trojans' ranks was a memorable one. She was a All-American as well as Pac-10 Freshman of Year when she was a teen freshman. In addition, she helped her Trojans to make it to the Final Four. The Trojans suffered a significant personal loss during her sophomore year, but was still successful in achieving the All-American award. In her last two years she led the Trojans up the mountain and clinched consecutive national championships. As an individual Ross established her status in the history books by winning the Honda Sports Award for 2003-04. This award was given to the best female volleyball players at colleges across the country. Ross majored in the field of international relations in USC. Unfortunately, Ross mother Margie never got to see her daughter ascend to the very top of beach volleyball fame. Margie, Ross's mother, passed away in 2001 when Ross was a USC sophomore. She had breast cancer. She has kept her parent close to the heart. Margie remains a constant source of inspiration for her both at and off the beaches.
